Was gonna Disc a Food Plot for Vermin this morning, have it ready should it rain next week, not so fast. LF going flat on tractor, Locust thorns were prevalent last several weeks as mowed, had pulled two fronts as were four rib Implement and replaced with three ribs, one of the pulled already flat and thorns all over it. So now have TWO to take to Tire Shop, know the other two just awaiting use to go same direction.

HOWEVER, did pick up generic Remedy herbicide Triclopyr, time to mix up Stump and Girdle treatment Sprayer so as the tires come back can attend to those could not mow over. As well get my Discing and Seed Bed set for later.

Roundup, 4' around base and 4' up trunk. A good soaking will kill them dead from bottom up -It's the roots! Know your struggle & feel your pain. Works on Osages too!

I think the Remedy along with Roundup is better than ether alone.

The first Remedy I used I was trying to get malva and evergreen mustard. I sprayed under a big locust tree. The vapor took the leaves off the first 6 to 8 foot of the tree. So I think locust is very venerable to the Remedy. It was not a big deal but had left lots of low limbs, helping to hide part of the junk I hate to part with. So I know I did not get any real spray up in the tree.

An old guy told me to cut off locust trees u p waist high and spray the stump with liquid Tordon right from the bottle. When you go back later, you can break it off below ground

Been using Tordon RTU on many smaller Locust sumps stubs and cuts, does reasonable, was told mix Remedy or Triclopyr to listed strength for a stump spray and will feed out to root saplings, poisons seed pods so will not germinate. Will see.

Got another odd/off occurrence happening as well. Been noting Walnut trees going dormant, leaves dry up and drop along with Hickory, then in last week Elm and those Locust started same dry down leaf drop and seeing Oaks following. Been hot and dry but not much different than other years, noted a Oak Blight is moving thru County NE of here but not here yet. Been no frost or cold snaps to trigger.

Trees can do some very different things to get through bad times. We have what is known locally anyway as blue oaks. They never get as big as other oaks. But get by on much less water. The leaves are smaller as well, and just a bit more wax to slow evaporation, the reason it is bluer than others.

Anyway a few years ago in a very dry year we had weeks of 100 degree days. They started looking yellow. So I assumed they were going dormant very early, they were not. They then turned red. After a month we got cooler weather and they came back to there blue green color. They never have much for fall color. They go yellow, and then brown.
