I picked up the original operating and parts manual for a d17 at the American Thresherman show in pinckneyville illinois today. Inside it has the delivery record for the tractor with a serial number. I'll attach a photo. If this is your tractor I would be willing to sell the manual to you for what i paid for it. Just message me.

Too bad the serial number is incorrect. It is missing at least one digit. Chassis s/n began at D17-1001 in 1957.

I suspect that's the last 3 digits of the serial number. Based off of the September of 1959 date on the page it's missing two digits in front of it. I did notice something interesting in that manual. D17 serial # 1 is used for the pictures in the manual. I can see the serial number clearly in a couple of pictures.

Yeah, there's one picture in the early part of the book that shows a transmission/differential breather behind the seat screwed into the top of the rear end housing. Also pics of the original brake latch that had no control rod going to it. You had to reach clear down to the platform and use your index finger to use it.
