Is a GROWING Issue. A Truck Failed as to the CANbus System not Communicating. A SINGLE Tail Light caused the ENTIRE Issues as the Electronics Module Got Wet.

A $1500.00 TAIL LAMP. WHY???????
Did My Own research, OUR 2017 Explorer has Modules in BOTH Fail Lamps, BOTH Head Lamps, BOTH Fog Lamps and assorted Other Location, A SINGLE Fog Lamp ASSEMBLY is over $800, Tail Lamp as with the F150 Above, $1260. To Diagnose, could Cost HUNDREDS if not close to $1000 as Shop Labor at Stealers is over $150/hr.

On the plus side now that canbus is everywhere on the vehicle it is easy to access, and someone with the right tool and a little knowledge can hack into it, unlock the doors, start the vehicle and drive off. I watched a video on how easy it was, I think the car used at that time was a Toyota and they went through the headlight but they all have canbus now.

More Open to theft, Less able to Repair, Less Viable for general DEPENDABLE Serviceability, Sad. And the KIA/Hyundai nonsense looks pallid in comparison, where the US FHWSA made them install Better Theft Prevention.

why on earth do you need a COMPUTER RUN TAIL LIGHT ??? TRUCKS cost $75,000. ... WHY ??? You could save THOUSANDS by eliminating a lot of the BS they add to these vehicles.

so that every time you fart in the car or turn the corner to fast some one will know about it i have been downloading tons of software on the new scanner for the new 2027 automated driver assited systems that will start putting on the brakes and pulling you over if the car thinks you are unsafe, and i am sure it probley sends a notice to your insurance company

Tell me again why new vehicles are so great, because the more I hear of them the less I could be convinced to spend the exorbitant prices that the dealers seem to think they are worth. Were someone to GIVE me a new vehicle, it would be sporting a "For Sale" sign and I'd never drive it. I'd rather spend half the cost of a new vehicle and rehab something pre 1970 something from the southwest. To me any vehicle with a computer for anything is nothing but trouble. When a tail light on something older blew you got 2 for a dollar.

yup paul b my 2002 dodge and buick are the newest i will ever have , i work on the new stuff but i dont want any of it my service truck is a 79 and i drive a 76 cj5 dont need no new 50 k side by side

I don’t know if this is related but, I hit a deer with my 2019 Buick encore. Broke both headlights. Insurance would only pay for used ones at $1200.00 each.

Only $150.00/hr,, dang,, that's cheap,, when I took my '24 in to dealer for a recall at Hereford TX,, they said they're at $210/hr

Labor Rates are also thru the roof, not so much wages. 90+% of Auto Trade is on Chargeable Jours/Flat Rate/Warranty Book Time, most of which are far from Realistic. Some techs make a lot of Money, not hardly to even Half of Shop rates, is same principle from the 70s where Warranty Time was schedule at Dealerships and was Half the rate of Shop for Mechanics.
Add in now mandated UI, Work Comp, required Health Insurance to gain prospects and the shop rate is generally 2.75 to 4 times payroll rates. KW and Freightliner near to myself are over $230/hr shop rate, mechanics are UNDER $50/hr where on a Chargeable rate payroll average for a week is Under $40/hr for 40 hours in house. Warranty Diagnostics time is restricted to 1.5hrs regardless how long it actually takes.

And the Dealers wonder why 1: Cannot Find Help, 2: Cannot KEEP Help. As well then still require a certain value of Tools Purchased to Keep up with Tech Changes.

don't get me going about Canbus ! Short version, wife's Nissan cashcow is in driveway, running, key on the kitchen counter( real key....) I drive it up to garage,going to pull battery cable. scanned the 400+pages of the manual,never to find WHERE the battery is.After +-15 minutes ,car shuts off. 3 trips to dealer,no joy. I FINALLY looked at it,they'de botched the remote start CANbus wiring, even found a Nissan techbull on it ,online that the EXPERTS at local Nissan dealer never saw..... As far as stealing ANY new vehicle, $5 part stops that. Yeah, they get out of driveway, maybe 1-2 blocks away then it'll die.NO 'fancy' computer can restart it, NONE.
