I bought this WD a couple of months ago. It has a locked left axle.

The brake adjusting nut was frozen so, every few days I would squirt it down a penetrating fluid and try it with a 24" braker bar. It finally moved today and I backed the brake off until I had about 4" of petal travel and could see the shoes moving.

I started it and put it in 1st and it was still locked as before. The right wheel moves as it should. I can rock it back and forth and dig a hole with the right tire but, the left, doesn't move, at all.

I have a manual and in the drawings, I can't see anything that could cause this. I would think that something would move even if the final drive gears are broke?

Can anyone shed some light on this? Maybe something simple that I've over looked?

Are you sure the brake shoe is not stuck to the brake drum ? It could be stuck at the bottom where you can’t see it.

I suppose that's possible but, I backed the nut off so that there was 3/4" between it and the block. I could push the brake petal down and see the top of the shoes moving. Then applied full torque, in 1st gear and nothing moved but the right side wheel.

If the top was releasing I would think the bottom would have broke loose but, then????

Id jack up that side and see if the tire will wiggle at all. Theres a little take up between the bull gear and the little gear on the axle shaft. Its not much but you can feel it. If the wheel wont move at all the bearings are siezed on the shaft the wheel bolts to

you know the differential is working since it drives on one side.. All that leaves is the top shaft and brake on the DEAD side.... and the bearings on the top shaft and bull shaft...

One of those is FROZE... would think the brake is more suspect than the bearings... Did you try to drain the final drive pan and see if it full of oil or water ?
