| I have a 200 series disc which has a not so good spindle. Has anyone replaced the spindle stub on any equipment? It's welded on both sides of "arm" and has funny looking spot on edge where looks like maybe a pin is driven in through spindle. I can buy this exact spindle from Shoup. Want to know how much trouble replacement is. TIA |

I had one done by a friend with whole machine shop, as his business was engine rebuilding machine work. He liked change of pace jobs sometimes.  But still like to tell you what pain it was. I am not remembering to much complaining. So it must not of been to bad. I think he might have ark gouged the old spindle out.
I sure miss the cantankerous old bugger. Today with a die grinder and carbide burr to clean up flame cut weld material. Or better yet a plasm cutter big enough. The biggest challenge would be keeping it straight as you weld the new one in. By not welding too much on one side, before moving to a different side. I guess I better say mine was on a Glencoe field cultivator so the piece your putting the spindle into could be different causing other issues. As I don't know the particular's on the disc.

Ive done a bunch of those. I always cut the old spindle off and then grind the spindle and weld back to the surface of the arm until i can drive the old part out. That preserves the original hole so i dont have to worry about getting it straight ------------- 1984 80780 1957 D14 DES 300 with 25000 engine 616 tractor |
