Ok guys I need some help. My 175 decided the other day to let her motor go nuts! I had the carb rebuilt last fall. I took the carb apart and everything is good. I then took the governor apart and the weights had a little slop in them so I replaced both weights and pins. Now there's no slop. I started the tractor and still no change. SO WHAT DID I MISS? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Your hand throttle is in control of idling the engine down fully to 400 RPM. If you cannot idle it down, I might think the throttle cable is unhooked at the engine oil fill cap, or inside the instrument panel. Your new governor weights aren't identical to the old ones, correct ??? Heavier weight?? different fulcrum riser ??

yep... engine can not REV UP if the Throttle plate is CLOSED or cracked open (idle)... check the cable and throttle plate..

... and also, remove the throttle rod to the carb at the carb - hold the throttle closed at idle and crank the tractor - observing all safety stuff - with the throttle at 1/2 slowly let the engine rev up - hold the disconnected throttle rod with the left hand and as the engine revs up the rod should move to close the throttle. If it does look for binding in linkage or the linkage hitting the block. We saw a throttle tab come loose from the throttle shaft and just that little bit of play caused over/under revving. IF it never moves - something is wrong inside the gov itself as Doc suggests.
