I know that the WDs always pop when you close the throttle quickly. Mine really pops. Loud - 2 or 3 bangs.

Magneto ignition. I have timed by ear - don't have a timing light. Also aftermarket marvel carb with adjustable main jet.

If I got found a light, where is the timing mark?

I see you have the same post twice.  If you have a light you time it laying on your back. Take off the inspection cover for the clutch. Clean things up. You will see marks on the flywheel.  Time it to the “F” mark at 1/2 throttle or more.  That is 24 degrees if I remember correctly. You will need 2 people who kind of know what they are doing! You can use the light, other person to play with the distributor.  Or if you have no help you can do it yourself - may have to get up and down a few times. Smile
The “F” means fire.
