We have an old Ford backhoe with a 3 speed Clark powershift transmission that is having issues. When shifting into forwards it takes a few seconds to engage no matter which gear is selected. Put it into reverse and it works fine. Shift from reverse immediately to forwards it works normally but if I shift from reverse and hit the brakes and then into forward it takes a few seconds to engage again. I disconnected the dump control valve that disengages the transmission when hitting the brakes but that has made no difference. Oil level is good and it doesn't seem as if the transmission is slipping any as it pushes good. Any ideas?

Seals internally are hardening and failing.

What's more likely, the forward clutch seals or the shuttle valve? I used it tonight to feed the cows and calves and it seems to be somewhat random. More like something sticking or blocked. I will have to do some research on this thing.

If you have a parts book for the machine I would check to see if the design of the shuttle includes a screen in the sump. If so, it would be reasonable to clean the screen out and retest. ~ Orangeman
