Was running the square baler with my 8050 yesterday when it decided it wanted a nice crankshaft inspection hole in the block. Needless to say i'm now on the hunt for a new engine to get it going fairly quick. I'd like to swap in a 8.3 Cummins, but after pricing some things thats not in the cards for a while.

As i figured i'm not finding too many tractor engines, but tons of combine engines. From reading around i know i'll have to tear both engines down pretty far to get everything swapped around, but are there any specific years or models to look for?

1982 OR NEWER to have your same fuel injection system. A model N-5 or R-5 would be my choice.  A fairly easy swap. Leave the front plate on the combine engine and make a couple of bolt-on angle irons to mate with the side frames.

Well that should make it better than i was expecting then. I found an engine out of a '83 N6 for a good deal locally. My injectors and pump have less than 150 hours on them so at least i'll be able to re-use them.
