Looking for help. Was just finishing up this 220 restoration hoping to put hood on it and take it to a show tomorrow. This tractor hasn't ran in 30 years. Every bolt on the thing has been touched besides the rear end and transmission. Engine was overhauled. I got it started today for the first time and it ran perfect for 5 min and stopped hard at idle. I thought the crank locked up even though it had oil pressure. Come to find out the bearing for the hydrualic pump drive locked tight and snapped the camshaft. From what I can tell oil is supposed to sling down on the bearings through 2 holes but there is no way to put some oil in there when assembling everything. Just trying to figure out what I did wrong to I dont have it happen again once its back together. I dont know how bad the damage is yet besides a broken camshaft and cracked cover and bent a couple push rods.

Pack the bearings in grease like a wheel on a wagon. The shaft/bearings (when assembled) spun easily by hand ?? They CANNOT be pre-loaded at all as they are high speed.

What kind of grease do you recommend not to hurt the engine? It was only the back bearing. Should I be able to just replace the bearings and races or should I look for a different hub? It turned easy by hand before assembling. These are original bearings as I felt they didn't need replacement.

I use a light white grease called Lubri-plate. Anything would be better than dry, including Vaseline. I don't think you can get the housing on wrong, right ?? It only fits one way. I imagine the hollow shaft/gear is fine, but I'm not holding it my hand to look at it.

No housing only goes one way. I haven't tore the bearing apart yet.

You didn't happen to leave out the spacer ring between the two bearings? I think that a new bearing set comes with a new ring??

He didn't take the assembly apart, just washed it out. That's why he could not pack the bearings. I wonder if using some 90wt would have been a good way to pre lube it.
