I've looked all over my H3/HD3 Allis Chalmers for a serial number but cannot find anything that correlates to a serial number. I'm sure this tractor was made in the 1960s but I can't find any indication of the number of hours on the machine. Sharing this photos in case anyone understands what it means -- DC23S is imprinted on the right side (pictured). 11913 is engraved on a plate behind the blade. GDN16802 F on the muffler or exhaust.. Hoping to list this for sale.

That’s a casting number. The serial is stamped into the bell housing of transmission where it bolts to the engine. Should be on upper left side as you sit on it.

I think I found it—H-2296-R -- still unclear on if it is a 1961 or 1962.

Chassis s/n began at 1001.  Gas engine s/n for an H-3 also began at 1001. So, figuring there weren't many HD-3 diesel engines built, it still probably makes it a 1961 chassis build. 1962 models started at 3199. I don't think they made 900 diesel versions in 1961. But who knows? Maybe the HD-3's had chassis serial numbers all their own?

Tractordata lists the H3 and HD3 separately, but list the same Serial Number Range for each year, H3 and HD3.

YOU NEED THE TRACTOR SERIAL #, THE PIC YOU POSTED IS THE ENGINE SERIAL #.

I just had H3 #9866 pull up to my store last week with engine serial #H-2596-R. Engine appears to be original based off paint, etc. I believe the H-xxxx-R format is for the crawlers with G160 engines that started at crawler serial #6959. The 149 engined H3 crawlers have engine serial # of 3-xxxx-R
