Rare, but suggest checking the return off the relief that Tees into the suction. A blockage here will over pressure the seal when the relief acts. When in normal running there is a small hole from the suction side to the brg section that keeps pressure from the seal from normal lube leakage on the shafts; this is designed into most pumps.

That pump is a bear to get to and to replace a belt. Sure doesn’t have much room for belt adjustment, probably the one downfall I have with the tractor. I have a leak I need to find, I had to add fluid to mine this year during hay season. Is the tee at the pump that you are referring to? Otherwise the power steering is really good on these tractors.
