I modded my CA custom 3pt hitch so that the lift arms will now go all the way to the ground.  However, I'm concerned that if I let the front of a mower drop too low (say crossing a ditch), that it will bind the PTO shaft.  Is there a general rule about how much you SHOULD allow the PTO shaft to bend?  Avoid crossing ditches or just limit the downward travel?  Best practices?

Max deflection for a U joint is 35 degrees, for safety, 20 degrees.  That's what the book says...  In practice, making sure you have the length right, and the joints properly phased are the important things...

If you drop it slowly when it's running, it will tell you when it is approaching too sharp (chattering). You should then be able to adjust your depth so you can't drop it too low.

Adjustable chains to control the max drop on the draft arms would be a good accessory to have to prevent a disaster like that from happening.

There are screw/turnbuckle adjustments.  Just trying to determine where to set them.
