A country boy can survive. That’s some ingenuity there and neighbors helping neighbors. A local trucking company hauled five tractor trailer loads of donated relief supplies that were collected at our county agricultural center. I have several friends who have collected and delivered supplies up there and they say that FEMA is only getting in the way and that the churches and volunteers are helping in any way they can.

Was talking to my neighbor the other day over coffee and he was telling me about a few years back after he retired from Fire Dept and as Captain - he signed up with FEMA on a disaster in Florida . Went to area and found a Hotel to stay in and 2 days later he was evicted as FEMA management needed all rooms there and workers needed to find anther place to stay .
So him and another fellow from NY (both lost their rooms) and bought a tent to share for the next 2 weeks while on site .
He QUIT - FEMA when he returned home and said NEVER AGAIN - did a couple church group calls for help after but Never Again for any government group helping .

BIL and I bought two old Utility External Frame trailers from a previous employer in 1992. Trailers were pretty sad as trailers but worked great as a temp bridge on his farm. County figured out they were there, DEMANDED they be removed as were not approved for or by the county Roads Codes. Since then the SAME SOBs that demanded that removal has added several of this type bridge using Truck Trailer Flatbeds and Rail Car flat decks. Been done a LONG time.

Needless to say, STILL pizzes me off.

A home around a mile from here got a RR flat car and suspended it on 2 poured concrete piers at ends - he then built a covered bridge type roof on it with open sides .
Building inspector informed him was not certified and fire dept would not cross it if needed access to his property - answer - use the driveway out behind house over creek for FD access - front was ornamental and for his personal use .
Then the back driveway was not certified either as it used a metal culvert - but seems it was used for 20 years and installed by township

Bunch of overpaid government employees who think they know it all and everyone should bow to their commands, and that goes for the local level all the way up to the federal level. When I was with the local volunteer fire department we would advise the homeowner if we saw that we would have trouble accessing their property but tried to work with them in any way possible.

Common sense has become a misnomer in the last 20 years, less common than kids with a good work ethic now!
