Anybody have experience with these? I’m truck shopping and looking seriously at a 2022 6.6 gas 4x4 Looking for opinions

From what I have ‘read’(yea I know) a common theme is those engines tend to use oil. Supposedly GM issued a service bulletin claim a quart per thousand miles is acceptable. If coupled with the 10sp automatic transmission, when pulling trailers mpg will be in the neighborhood of 10(at best), no trailer 15-17.

Makes me FAR less than Dissatisfied with the 8mpg at 70 on the KW dragging a 17600gvwr trailer. 8.7 at 70 Bobtailing.
BIL bought a Van to haul his wife's Basket Class Materials two years ago, thought would be great, Best economy so far 13mpg. Can barely stow all the crap she drags to shows and lessons. His 2004 GM with the 327 4x4 never got better than 11mpg and not once towed anything.
Dodge 2500 a friend has, Hemi, slobbers along at 9.9mpg. Uncertain how the newer RAM units fare.

I have 18k miles so far on my '24, with ample trailer pulling. Milage is about 12, pulling a trailer, most of the time. Flat land 12, a little less if significant hills involved. I can't address oil use as so little milage. Beyond that I am very happy with the truck and the 6.6

I have a 21 2500 HD 4x4 with a 6.6 gas . Works well for what I need. I only burn premium non ethanol in it as it sits in my garage for extended periods. My only complaint is Chevy waited until 2024 to pair the gas 6.6 with the Allison transmission. The duramax diesel would get the Allison where the 6.6 gas didn't. Well that all changed after I forked over a big chunk of change. If I was going to spend that kind of money again I would get that Allison

I just spoke to our local coop LP delivery man tonight. They lease 400 new GM pickups every year. He was assigned a pickup and trailer and sent to Florida with a trailer full of food to help out after the Hurricane. He said it got 28mpg going down loaded and 23 mpg coming back empty. They sell these when the lease is up. I'm going to stop in and put my name on the list.

Not buying the mileage. Several previous work buds had bought Duramax or Cummins powered pickups and were quite happy to note 18-24mpg in varied usage. Had them make a log and bring it in with mileage between refills and total gallons used, most were off by as much as 50% as were ‘guesstimating’ their mileage. Most achieved similar to my 7.3 PS at 12-17mpg. Angered them as I challenged them, then angered them further to have trusted the economy meter on their dash. Were seeing Highest attained, not the overall average.

I’ve been looking for a newer truck for a little over a week. Most 3/4 ton 4x4 are diesel. I prefer a Ford 6.2 gas or a GM 6.0 or possibly the newer 6.6 gas. I’ve looked at several 6.7 diesels. I would consider one but still prefer a gad burner. Everything I show interest in sells very quickly. The prices are insane. Click on a link and next thing you know there’s some high pressure sales man calling 13 times a day. I’m working weekends right now. I’m gonna have to put this on hold until I can go look in person. Not the same as it used to be.

70 mph on flat ground it registers 17, 18 mpg . Pulling camper lucky if I can get 10 mpg.

Agree with Dave. The guys driving class 8 trucks claim 8-10 mpg. I say don't tell me what the computer says. Do the miles VS gallons math at the fuel pump.

Yesterday I drove a 2016 Chevy 1500 4x4. It has a 5.3 motor and very low miles. I’m very tempted to buy this truck. Anything to watch for?

I had an 06 1500 with a 5.3 and it used some oil. Not as bad as a quart per 1000 but it did use some. I believe it had right at 100,000 on it when I got it so I don't know how it was driven before then. I don't remember it having a lot of get up and go but it's been gone 6 years

The 5.3 is a great engine. Especially in the 2014 and newer models.

Change the oil regularly and a vortec will run a long time. Problem is rest of truck will fall apart around it . Rust around wheel wells, brakes ,brake lines ,water pump, etc, etc. 5.3 is a good engine but power band is 3000 rpms. Not a lot of low end power. When I would drive out to Utah with my 2001 1500 it didn't like the inclines and transmission would constantly shift . That was my only complaint about 5.3 . Great gas mileage and not many issues.

the 5.3 is basically the same size as a 327 cid engine.. The 5.3 has been around for 25 years and started out at about 275 HP... over the years it was bumped up to 295 and 310.. In the last several years it has grown to 355 HP ... NOW it has enough HP to do trailer hauling... back in 2000 - 2010, not so much.

It comes with a factory tow package. I bought it last night.
