I have a WD that has been converted to 12volt, the tractor has the external resistor , Do I have to buy a new coil that does not have a resistor?

the external resistor is a PATCH to make a 6 volt coil work on 12 v.. If it is WORKING, thats OK... When it dies of old age, its time to get a REAL 12v coil that is Internally wound with the right reistance and then Eliminate the External resistor.

Get a new 3 Oem coil , as Steve said why patch it with resister ,most guys don't even use correct resister and that causes problems .

When you say right resistance is that just a regular 12 volt coil with internal resistor, or is there a certain one I should get for the WD?? Thank you

YES... there should be a lable on the coil that says " 12v with internal resistor" . ... not really an actual resistor, but wound for correct resistance.
