Can’t figure out how to get this set screw out of my new starter bendix. It’s different than the old style as the spring is covered and doesn’t leave enough clearance for the set screw to come in or out. The link is the new part I got.

I can’t figure out how to post a picture on here but it’s not an Allen set screw it’s a flathead. Also that’s the problem I can’t get it to compress far enough to clear the outside of the set screw.

Well, been there done that! Had to take a die-grinder and cut a notch to get to the screw. What was worse, the drive was about an inch too long. Took it back and they did refund my money at least.

That kind of drive was on our old cat lift trucks. I would put it in a vise and compress it enough to let it go past that collar then put it on the shaft and then tighten it up then remove from vise
