I purchased a Caterpillar scraper pan and it has an Allis-Chalmer's serial number. The number is AC 44 771. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

According to the literature it is 5.4 yard heaped 4 yard struck unit. Weight 6595#. It was a LaPlante Choat product when AC bought them out.

Thank you. A parts book was with it and is for a Cat. No. 40 Scraper. I hauled it on my trailer and it seemed much heavier than 6500 lbs. Maybe my truck is getting weak. Any idea what year it was built?

If its got AC 44  771 stamped on it. Its almost certainly a AC model 44 scraper.
The lift for the apron should be by a cable that runs back to the ejector ram.
Somebodys probably just given you a parts book for a Cat No40 scraper; thinking they were the same.
No 40 has rams mounted on the side of the apron to lift it.
Both are mint little hydraulic scrapers and well worth having; and perfectly match a Allis HD6 or Cat D4.

Allis bought LaPlante Choate in 1952. The scraper was marketed with the HD-5 and HD-6 tractors, but do not know when they were discontinued. I wish I had one as it would go perfectly with our HD-6.
