I’m looking at this truck. Looks to be in n very good condition. 140000 miles.
Mine has 550000 miles and starting to fall apart.
The guy wants $10,000
Has brand new tires and very clean.
Seems like a lot for a truck this age but anything newer with 140000 miles is twice that.
This one has a gearshift for 4x4 rather than the buttons like mine.
Any opinions?

I have an 05 with similar miles. Duramax. The front diff went out due to an oil leak I missed. Allison trans also has a leak at the tail shaft. May want to check those fluids ahead of time. Still a solid truck. Ten grand seems like a lot but that is the market it seems

Diesel or a gasser?

I have a 2005 2500 HD gasser with a 6.0 vortec . It has the gearshift for the 4 wheel drive instead of the buttons. Long bed without an extended cab . Rock solid truck other than rust . In your area she may still be in good shape. Bumper rusted through, transfer case behind tyranny had to be rebuilt.
I paid 10 grand in summer of 2012 with 120,000 miles . Still have it and use it as my beater.Just about to turn 200,000 miles.
Good thing about gearshift for 4 wheel is don't have to worry about a vacuum line leaking or coming loose.

So just bought on similar at auction and around the same price , his has the extended cab though and is a 1/2 ton - so not that bad of price
I was in a Dodge dealers the other day and they had a new 3/4 4 WD and lifted and few other things , $96,000
Somewhere the world has went CRAZY - but people are buying them.

The truck has a 6.0 gasser which I’m a fan of and what I have now. The biggest problem with the one I have is the push buttons for 4x4 and extended doors leak air. Glad this one has a manual shift lever.
The one I’m looking at is a single cab 8’ bed.
hD with the nice GM wheels.

Sounds like you are describing my daily driver cept I gots 230000 miles on mine, The only thing I dont like on mine is the gas consumption but it has all the power a person needs. Used regular cab long bed trucks are hard to find in my area and when you find them they bring good money. Dont want to spend your money for you but I wouldnt hesitate if I was ready to buy.

Pickups in general are exorbitant in pricing now. Especially 3/4 ton which is right in the middle for light duty, and medium duty needs. Has priced many, (including myself) out of the market for new.

4wd, long box, 3/4 ton preferably….anything that’s not junk is over $10k easily. My favorite ad so far was “ran and drove great until the motor locked up.”

I have an 02 2500HD 6.0. Paid 10k 3 years ago had 95k on it.
I thought it was worth it compared to the ones I was looking at.

99 to 2006 are the best trucks GM ever made. I wish they still were that way. Read the complaints on the newer trucks, make you sick for what they cost. JMHO, Tracy

Not so sure our 2001 GMC is that great. I mean it’s not terrible. I get that in Michigan climate it’s going to be Swiss cheese sooner or later, but it’s only got about 144k miles on it and seems the engine is about shot, very little oil pressure once warmed up. It never was a nickel and dime you to death truck though so overall fairly pleased with it.

My 2000 has 550000 miles on it and the motor never touched. The transmission was rebuilt around 230000

Sounds like a fair price for it. Beats the $70K plus they want for a new one.

Hoping it isn’t luck. Main reason for wanting this one is because it has the same motor and transmission as the one I drive.
I know that doesn’t mean it would last as long, but I’m hoping.
By the way I appreciate the post and giving it much thought.

My 2000 Sieara GMC 3/4 new style cab with 6.0 is actually a 1/2 ton frame with 3/4 running gear . it seems in 2000 with the 2 style cabs the 5.7 had the heavy frame , the 6.0 was the new 1/2 ton frame - seems frame rust is big problem on many trucks in the age bracket . Went with son to looks at several trucks and he brings a hammer with to rap on frame to see how much rust falls off .
On my 2000 all the gas lines have rusted through , brake lines all replaced , gas tank straps and mounts rusted off ad have tank banding strapped into position now. Just noticed power steering lines are leaking now from rust  - 97,000 miles but rusting out

My 99 Super Duty Ford started corroding from the Inside Out as far back at 2007/8 time frame. Cab corners, bed fender lip areas then started seeing bubbles nearly everywhere. Frame has been least of worries as was conventional C Channel form, as soon as changed to a lighter ‘Box’ frame those also began corrupting nearly as fast as sold. Ford has a real problem currently with frame rot at camel back of frame where transitions to under cab. Body shop here has re-chassis repaired nine so far, untold orhers gone to scrap.

Ah corrosion. It's inevitable it seems. My 05 crew cab is showing rusty rocker panels. Step son replaced his on an 03 couple years ago. Coworker's 97 Ford is pretty crusty looking. Even the exhaust manifold rusted out. My 89 Choo Choo Custom K2500 is barely hanging together. Only the doors hood and box floor are still solid

Kinda like my old Dodge one ton eh?

Had to do away with the front stabilizer bar as the mounts of the frame horns were no longer there.

I actually considered buying a old Corn Queen Loadstar and converting it with my running gear into a dropped Rat Rod, but those are even getting big prices now.

Mine is a V-10 gas engine and I may install it into my 250cfm air compressor replacing the old Continental flathead six. Compressor end is two bearing type so can drive it with flex plates and driveshaft coupling from the engine. Need 100hp at 1800rpm and the engine has better than that, so may work out well.

I have a 02 2500 HD with 6.0 engine, 5 speed manual and manual lever to engage         4-wheel drive ,    123 000 mi. standard cab, 8 ft box no rust.  There is no way that I would sell it for less than $15 000. It's a keeper for my farming enterprise!

I could shore it up but it really is bad under there. Looking at the first photo you can see two bed mounts and this is what is keeping the frame together so the stresses are passed through the side panels of the truck bed. The transmission xmember is about rotted in half on the left side also.

I like a challenge for sure, but there does come a time.....

Had a hectic week and I didn’t get to go look.
I also haven’t mentioned it to Mrs. Brown yet either.

You haven't been married long enough to know two "cardinal rules" of life and marriage.

1. You know the honeymoon is over when the wife comes in and takes a while you brush your teeth.

2. It is easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission.

We have an agreement that we’ll discuss anything of high cost.
To me that’s high cost.

That is a very good agreement to have. Far too many run rampant with the expenditures and attempt to figure a way to pay for it afterward.

Our non discretionary spending agreement is simple. A certain threshold is set and anything above that amount we discuss. Below the threshold, no approval is required.

Kind of like a recharging allowance package but basically, "don't spend what you don't have".

prices of trucks have gone thru the roof is past 2 years. glad I bought my dually when i did, would have to pay $5000. or more to buy same truck now. that truck sounds like a good one, don't let it get away! with them miles, most everything has prolly been gone thru or replaced already.

I'd be real careful about dumping a bucket load of dirt into that rusted pickup, if I were you...

HEY THAD!!
I'm getting in on this discussion really late (as usual) but that sounds like a lot of truck for the money.
I've got a 2004 1/2 ton and it's in really good shape for Wisconsin, hardly any rust.  My problem with it is that it doesn't run.  I was going down the road and it just quit.  I've gotta haul it somewhere so they can see what the fuel pump is putting out.  I'm gonna start there as it has a FULL tank of gas and I'm not dropping that unless I have to.  It will always be my go to truck!
The problems with Chevies came AFTER the 2008 series and all the pollution crap etc.
IF, as John says, it's rusted, I'd pass.  Chevy has been notorious for rusting out, as we all know.
As far as football goes......I'm gonna become a hockey fan and I know squat about that!

Ted, you dont usually drop the tank on that era of truck anymore. I find its much easier to take the bolts, filler neck and light harness loose and lift the bed off with a cherry picker or loader tractor. Remove tailgate, hook straps in the tie down loops and lift it off. Im hoping Thad ends up with that truck and it proves to be as reliable the old one.

As far as I can see in the pics it has no rust.

I would have found it surprising if it still was there given the elapsed time since initially located. Very few sellers have morals no matter what they say when someone puts the cash on the barrel head.

Yes this one was a couple hours away. The guy really tried to make it work out but our schedules just didn’t work out.
Not in a hurry but need to jump on something if another deal shows up.

Well,,after losing a few really good deals,,all along,,,,I could NOT figure why or HOW I was loosing out even tho I would try contacting the seller almost right after the post was placed,,,?
Last couple of weeks there was a 1980s ONE TON square body with a "running" 454 in the town right next door,,, for the unheard of price of $600,,!!!!!  I sent them 4 messages trying to get a response and my last message I even offered them $700 for the truck hoping to win the bid. I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE!!  WTH??
Quickly called my Brother for Him to try,as he does FACEBOOK all the time. They responded to him right quick! The seller told my bro that they had got a offer for $700 but since I my FB Profile was NOT complete,,they did not trust my bid!!  Ain't that the s??
I had my BRO buy the trk and the dude even delivered to my house for the SAME PRICE as advertised. This will never happen again,,,,,,,Guess, I'm gonna have to complete my FB profile If I ever want to win anything,,,,

Well, Thad,,it's too bad on that trk you were really wanting but don't fret too much,,there will be more that's for sure.

I never had too much use for FB as I figured it was mostly Teenie Boppers telling stories to each others anyway. I only joined because it was necessary to get to the Marketplace, So, I never completed my profile. ( Who Wants To Know Bout Old People Anyway) LOL
I have made several good deals and a few really great ones too,,,and also LOST some really great ones! My younger Bro finally convinced me that many "sellers" will check your profile BEFORE they respond to any requests for info and since mine was never completed,,,,,SO, with the assistance with my college educated Granddaughter, I re-did my profile last nite plus included a few choice tidbits to fool the curtain climbers as well as some never before seen pics of "The Lambo 55",,,,
I have to get some honey do's done this week and am gonna roll the Red Car out of the garage, where it has been hiding for almost 6 years!! Gosh, time flies,,don't it,,? Then,,I'm gonna jump into completing the restoration with Both Feet,,!!
Any volunteers are welcome to come help,,,I bought plenty of Black Label for the really brave souls out there,,,,,LOL
