What varieties of heirloom(not hybreds) have you all had good results? I am in zone 7b-8a. Mixed in coffee grounds and egg shells in the soil. This will be the first for this property, in many years. Removed a bunch of bushes on the south side of house, so plenty of organic matter, soil was surprisingly dark. Going heirloom for better taste and nutrition.

i do not about heirlom or not but i like beefsteak because one slice will cover a slice of bread and lemon boy to just stand in the garden and eat allways some of those cherry tomatoes

My daughter brought home a cherry variety from school one year and I did just that. They were fabulous. She did not know the variety and I have yet to find one like it

We plant Black Krimm and Cherokee purple and have good luck with both. There is another really nice red one called mortgage builder or something like that, but I already have 20 planted so I left that one.

I'm just about 7a. I have to put a lot of water on them to get much of anything especially as bad as the drought has been. Black Krim and Rutgers have done okay with some water. Yellow Pear hang on pretty well in hot dry weather but will also need help with water when it's dry. All three of those should be able to be found somewhere that carries Burpee's packets.

when them plants gits about 8-10 inches tall, mix up sum epsom salts in warm water and pour all around the base of each plant. make sure the salts are disolved, and only do it once.

whatever toms I plant, they go in at a 45* angle,with bottom leaves removed. was told this adds a LOT of roots and makes the plant stronger. I toss new scraps of drywall on the field in the fall, kinda dissolves over winter, then tilled in at springtime.

Also be sure NO Black Walnut trees nearby on in any 'mulch' ! Poison ( Jugalone) in 100% of the plant will wilt and kill the tomato plants
