I've recently bought an ED40, and decided to do a bit of research into them.
I've read that 440 were shipped to Baltimore. Can anyone confirm/correct this. Would they have been one batch with sequential serial numbers?.
Does anyone on here have one, or know the whereabouts of any? It would be interesting to see how many have survived. Many Thanks

Dad just recently bought one and I know of a couple others in Ohio.  As far as how many and if there were consecutive serial numbers I dont know much about that.

Joe, I can't fully answered all your questions but I have read elsewhere on this forum that 450 ED40's were imported into the States and an unknown number into Canada.
If you were to type ED40 into the forum's search engine, some names of ED40 owners appear plus posts relating to this tractor.
We have the ED40 in New Zealand and I've collected most of the South Island tractor numbers. There appears to be 2 sets of 10 tractors which have sequential serial numbers here in the S.I. I have two of these tractors.

Thanks for the info Guys. Would you be prepared to forward to me any info on tractors in your possession or are aware of, serial numbers, currant condition etc?. Although this is just private research at the moment, if I get enough info/feedback, I may try and put together some form of website/register.

Here is a serail number list for ED40's. I would take this as there being around 4650 of them being built. But I do think some of them were also built in 1966. Fairly nice little tractor. What they should have done was put a perkins engine in a D14. But I suppose the ED40 was less expensive. Also one interesing thing about them is the rear end has some allis compenents like a D14 or a CA but it has a diff lock. Allis should have put that into the D14--D21. They had some hyd problems with the 3pt cylinder in the rockshaft housing traveling to far during use and breaking the housing. They had some form of field repair for this.

TerryMN, Thanks for that, I'm guessing that's a Dutch list?, I believe that they were made up until 1968. When the ED40 was designed, AC were planning to use a Perkins engine (the P3 had been successful in the B, D272) but, at the same time, Perkins were bought out by Massey Ferguson, who then refused to sell AC the engine. So, Allis chose to use the Standard Ricardo 23C.

Have one of these tractors, here in Paisley, Ontario Canada.. Serial # is 3183, I believe..
tractor is in fair to good condition, runs well; I use it only in the winter to blow snow.. I want to try and restore this tractor, but it's missing its original fenders, so was hoping someone could give me a lead on a pair.. . There are 2 other tractors in my area, but I don't know the people that own them  at all. I believe there were only 200 of these models shipped here to Canada.. Hope this helps..
