My son was out scrapping and cleaning out a guy's work shop. Bunch of different screws, nails, and other fasteners he was getting rid of. Got a 2 1/2 gal bucket of these, my son asked what they are for and I have no clue.  Magnet sticks to them. Any ideas?

actually they might be good for driving into a tree or the butt end of a log, etc... Probably not so good into a 2 x 4.

Do they seem hardened? Can you bend one?
I’m m thinking some type of cut nail for concrete?

Was thinking same but the cut nails I have seen for concrete were shorter and more stout than these. Maybe framing nails for a period restoration project?

I figure you’re about right on this.
There’s a reason railroad spikes are square and tapered only one way.

square nails such as these are often called "coffin nails" simply due to their age and style, it is the type of nail that would have been used for the construction of coffins.
