Last night, CBC Marketplace had a segment  on how stolen cars get to Nigeria ! Seems 1 out of 10 Lexus'sss will be stolen ! CRVs ,BMWs are top 10 as well...

1st, they pick the lock... 30-40 seconds !
2nd, scan the OBD2 port, get car ID,find the security code, start it up,2-5 minutes
3rd, drive it away

it's THAT easy !!!

No damage to car, NO alarms go off, it's just GONE !!

I can't remember the fine details here, But about 6 months ago this happened.  I live with-in eye shoot of the area Bentley Dealer.  yes I see it and pass it every day.  They had 6 cars gone in about 4 minutes.  Stole plates off of cars at the local car rental, stopped by to get, I think, 2 Bentleys 2 Mercedes, 1 Cadie, and a loaded new Chevy truck, and gone!  Cameras were looking, but gone.  One  of them was recovered from when it ran out of gas and left!

Not surprising vehicles are a target.  With prices at $50k to  $100k+,  the temptation for thieves is high.   Why bother taking just the wheels or catalytic converter.

Up in St Louis the local news gives educational stories on how to steal trucks, the reporter gave a demonstration on how to steal an F-250 or F-350 with a screwdriver, OUTSTANDING JOB moron, the theft rate on ford's went off the charts, so now what did they have training report on?? Stealing fuel with a cordless drill and a bucket!! Now half of eastern Missouri carries a couple of wine corks in their glove box just in case

They better bring a tow truck to get my truck. That tiny well hidden switch that kills power to my fuel injection will give them fits. I know it drives the wife nuts and she knows where it's at. 😆

I locked the keys in my "18 Ford car at restaurant this winter. A guy in there works at local towing company. He had my car open and handed me the key in less than 45 seconds. He wouldn't take $$ for doing it, I told waitress that I'd get his lunch.
I've had people tell me you can't lock keys in the newer ones, well I did.
