Was wondering if anybody had a good line on a decent paint that I don't have to lever the farm to buy. I used to use Dupont Centari and Imron, both excellent paints way back when, I have used Nason Urethane, decent paint not as good as the Dupont for longevity,  Valspar 2 stage, clear coats don't last here. The worst that I ever used was the Tisco Synthetic Enamel, seems like it went to hell in about 2 months. So, back to my question, I would like to use an Acrylic Enamel like Centari and it is still available but what have they done to it and is it as good as it ever was? hard to say unless one of you guys have used it. What about the Tractor Supply Paint? it is an Alkyd Enamel that needs Naphtha to reduce just like the Tisco paint, I don't want to do that again, all that work prepping and the paint is crap. Look forward to a bit of feedback, Thanks.

Do you have a Sherwin Williams close?
I’ve heard good things about their auto paint.

A few years when I quit painting tractors, I was using the paint that ORilley's markets.  I thought it was good but had to watch the fumes and keep a good mask on when using the hardener.

My O'reilley's has Nason but couldn't get close enough to PO#1 for me.  I did paint some IH parts, their match for it was a little off also but after a couple of years kind of blended ok and has held color pretty well.

I painted the sides of her enclosed trailer with IHC red from True Value, not spray cans. Primered and put on 2 coats of red. That was 2.5 years ago. It still looks good. I can't remember the Brand name. It might have been Rust o leum.

Was speaking with local body shop as to paint for my KW, they are actually using a great deal of Rust-O-Leum products these days, with good effect.

In the past I painted quite a few tractors with a HVLP gun.
Nason Paint -covered well and dried to a high gloss and looked absolutely beautiful!(cost me about 500$ to paint my D17 with it.)
Agco paint-covered well, no issues. I think for the money it is my top pick. (at the time about 60$ per gallon)
Rustoliem- ok for the price, but took more coats than the more expensive paint
Tractor Supply paint- Garbage. It is low on solids and had to thin it down so much to spray it took a lot of coats. Never again.

The Rustoleum of past just could not stand up to California sun, it would fade quite quickly, they might have something new out now, the same goes for XO rust which I buy at the local hardware store, really good paint for a raw enamel and it does stand up much better than the old Rustoleum but it will fade as well. I just bought a quart of Valspar Urethane for my friends pick up and it was $260 for a quart including activator and reducer that will make it a quart and a half, and PPG probably the best thing going is $400 a gallon. I have several tractors that need paint so I will keep looking and let you guys know what I find out. Thanks Tad

Tad, is that the California price or is that everywhere ?  I have not bought any "quality" paint for several years... Nothing needs painted right now !!

Like them all, but love the "B"s.
