Do any of you have any experience you'd like to share about Washington National Insurance? They are "canvasing" my county right now and have stopped by twice. They do not have printed information they will give and their website doesn't offer any numbers either. However, the salesman makes it sound like a good risk product for a self employed guy like me. Basically a hospital/accident/disability policy and supposedly if you pay your bill for 25 years whether you file any claims or not, you get 100% of your premiums back. The traveling salesman pitch and no hard numbers on paper or online turn me off about it, but if the policy works like they say, it's quite tempting. Just wondered if any of you had any knowledge of the company. Thanks in advance.

Going from memory many-many years there was a Washington National Life Insurance, that came around and pushed hard, we bought a policy. We are not at home but to check but they were bought out/changed their name, some time ago.

Good question Adam, they were through here about a year ago and it sounded pretty decent. I actually kept their brochure and was going to call with some questions and just didn't get around to it. Hopefully someone here maybe has experience with them and responds. I don't think I understood the monthly premium was for what age, I figured that would be the catch. Maybe so high you can't afford it but then again I really haven't checked so could be reasonable.

Check with your State Insurance Commission as most Insurance Co have to be registered in the State they operate in . There should be a listing for the company and for their products . Years back I had business insurance and home insurance with a company called Iowa National Mutual and was a client for 6 years with them . Then they were closed down because it was said their reserves were not high enough . I had a claim outstanding at the time for water damage on ceiling . I got a partial payment then 3 years later got the balance . Talking to the individual who sold me on them he said rival insurance company was the cause of action and later bought out the company and client list and swallowed that up at bargain basement price .

Looked them up online and it sounds like it's a kind of odd way to sell policies but more of a sales gimmick of Multi Level Marketing of a product at the expense of both sales person and customers https://www.indeed.com/cmp/Washington-National/reviews

Completely commission based pay, which can be horrible depending on where you live. Smaller city and you are doomed since these people constantly visit the same places year after year and expect you to open new accounts with people who have already bought the insurance years ago. Honestly, the only way you could reap the benefits of this company are if you started in it years ago. The well is pretty much dry now.
Not only that but you are expected to travel all on your own dime. No gas mileage reimbursement, if overnight stay required no hotel provided, no money per diem, ect. Expenses add up fast so hopefully you have savings saved up if you want to survive when you first start out.
My advice to anyone looking for work would be to work anywhere but here. It just ain't worth it.

Good question.
Maybe people don't take the time to complain to the BBB much anymore?

I would be extremely cautious of a sales rep. (non-local) just traveling through. I believe that company has somewhat of a checkered past. You know what they say if it sounds too good to be true-be careful. Premium refund is a carrot approach and companies come & go in that time frame.

I've had cancer plans thru them and so far they live up to their words and have paid out over $100,000 , last salesman was pushy and didn't really care for that,

On BBB it seemed most all the complaints were from people cancelling their policy and getting auto drafted after, doesn't say why they cancelled possibly the pushy salesman got them in something they couldn't afford, I don't know, one complaint about paper work for a claim and one complaint about not having coverage on something they thought they did. Sounds like salesmen and accounting problems, really didn't see too many complaints about the coverage. I will say the salesman that pulled into the farm about a year ago here wasn't pushing

At my age I'm not gonna worry about getting my money back in 25 years, even if my aunt is still kicking at 99 2/3's.

Thanks for the input everyone. I guess one sure way to get my premiums back in 25 years is to never spend them in the first place. I'm glad they paid someone on here though. Much better than hearing of someone we "know" being scammed when they needed help most.
And John made me think of a story. Our neck of the woods is close to Hammond's Black Walnuts and someone from that company came to a farm meeting once and made a sales pitch to plant their special black walnut trees in fencelines etc. Would get a premium on the nuts and after so many years sell the lumber etc. An old farmer asked the presenter if it was something he should invest in or not. Before the Walnut guy had a chance to answer a county employee who happened to be kinfolk to the guy who asked the question said "at your age I wouldn't invest in green bananas" and the whole room about lost it.

Probably right up there with Car warranties.
Or it’s a new tactic of the Irish Travelers group..the ones who used to do driveways and roofs.
