I am looking for a temperature monitor that will alert my phone when the temp in the house drops below a certain level. This would alert me of a potential issue when I'm not home. I'd like something that would send an alert to my phone when out of range. Do any of you have a recommendation? Something that works with ring or alexa would be a plus, but if it was a separate app, would be ok too.

two comments... 1) most (all ?) units WILL send your data to someone, somewhere in the world. 2) find a 'stand alone' unit(battery backed). If your house is cold because the power's OFF, Alexa won't be calling you !! Whatever you buy, hopefully it an be programmed to call you at say 55* and 45* NOT just one temperature ! The remote energy control systems I designed 3+ decades ago did the 55 and 45 'calls'. That gives YOU time to get home or call a neighbour to see WHY it's 'getting cold'. Broken window ?? If you have an alarm system, all today can have a 'temperature module' added to them. i have a SimpliSafe Home Security system and it came with a temperature sensor and you can purchase additional sensors ( https://simplisafe.com/temperature-sensor" rel="nofollow - Smart Home Temperature Sensor | SimpliSafe SS3 Temperature Sensor ). The parameters that you want to monitor are adjustable. (I change the lower sensor when we are away for extended periods, since we lower the temperature in the house. I also have devices that detects water in the basement, carbon monoxide detectors and heat/smoke detectors in addition to the regular door, window, glass breakage and motion detectors.
Since I pay a monthly monitoring fee (~$25) for the whole system, I receive a phone call immediately if there is any kind of activation. My whole house/garage system was about $500 and installed and set up very easily. What I like about the system is that I can install devices where I believe I need them. We had a smoke alarm activation a couple years ago when there was a downdraft through the fireplace that caused smoke in the living room. I wasn't home, but my wife was. Upon activation, Simplisafe notified me before my wife got to the phone and called me. I am more than happy with my whole system, and I also receive a discount on my homeowners' insurance by having the system. |

If you have a security system as WF referenced, that is the way to go. I had a couple of zones added to mine. One for high and low temp and one for basement flood which activates if the water gets too high in the sump. |

I added the temperature sensor to the alarm system at the farm when no one lived there. I was concerned the pipes would freeze should the furnace fail during the winter or if power should go off for an extended time. I had it set for 45 degrees. If tripped the alarm system would have the auto dialer call my neighbor at the farm, then me at work and then my home and it would give a prerecordered message saying it was too cold at the farm. ------------- 1957 WD45 dad's first AC 1968 one-seventy 1956 F40 Ferguson |
