Stop at McDonald just a bit ago and went thru the drive thru.  Not one asking me anything, seen a sign it is online with their app only.  Drove around and the doors are locked!  So if you don't have a smart phone, with the app, no food for ya, can't order!!!
The future has done passed me by, with no Happy Meal!  lol

That works just fine for me. The clown palace is one of the last places I'd ever stop. Too many good places to go inside, be waited on and served fresh home cooking for just about the same price. Who needs frozen mystery meat Wacko Confused Dead

This is what a a $15 minimum wage buys you.  If someone can be trained in less than 2 days to do your job then it doesn't make sense to pay a lot of money to someone to do it.  McDonald's has had the technology to run an entire store with one employee for many years and it's coming into play as the minimum wage increases.  Pay someone to keep the machines loaded and everything is automated right down to electronic payment going directly to the bank.  Another generation or two and society will accept this kind of business.
There is a lot of people making decisions that never had to write a payroll check, manage a business and employees.  Businesses are in business to make money, not hire employees or fund political campaigns, sadly, the more successful you are, the more the latter comes into play.

This has nothing to do with quick food places kinda.
I went to Walmart last weekend in the morning because the wife was sick and we needed some basics and a lot of it. No meat or vegs from there. Had a heaping cart and all that was open was 2 self check isles with a line.

WTH I asked the old gal watching if that is all that is open or going to be open. Yep that's it till noon. I told her she could put all this back or get one of your minions to do it, and I left.

Stopped at Wendy's today, Westminster.  I hadda coupon for $2 offa any meal combo, Man was that baconater good!  Anyway, drive through line outside was about 10 cars deep, inside, 3-4 customers, and about the same number working. Food was ready by the time I punched in what soda I wanted, at that computerized touch screen thingie.

I only eat at the clown palace about once a year, generally as a buck last resort!  2 big farts and a big mac dis-appears from my system, without much of a trace!Wink

Fixer, I like the way you operate! I don't use the self checkouts either. If more people started doing that they would open up some registers.

I have not eaten at the clown palace or burger dinky in years. I try to patronize the local establishments that serve good food and have good service where I can sit down and enjoy my meal.

Never was a big fan of Whataburger, but stopped in a few weeks ago because I was doing a ‘lunch run’ at the yard. So I noticed a new item, ‘Green Chili Double cheeseburger’, so I figured what the heck, turns out it is darn good. Been back a couple times for more.

We have a small Deli Ice Cream shop in town, lovely people run it and great service so we drop in a few times every few weeks, or will stop at a local dive bar that has a great kitchen, I do NOT partake of Clown Palace or the other Chain places if have other opportunities.

And yes, raising the Min Wage to idiotic levels buys less jobs while automations is placed in those shops.

I love the technology that replaces a so called human who can't speak English and just grunts when asked a question. Self checkout is better than sliced bread if I don't have to interact with the knuckle draggers.

I tell them and other people who ask; "I won't do it. It's stealing food from someones mouth."  I'm NOT going to help put someone out of a job.
I don't frequent the fast food places at all.  They are just as slow as a good restaurant with a daily special.  The price is just about the same but the waitress is a lot more friendly and WANTING to serve me.

I too am not a fan of self checkouts, and try not to use them unless I have to.  That said.... I'm sure most of us on this page remember when every gas station had an attendant who filled the tank, checked the oil and washed the windows for you.  Yet here we are today, all pumping our own fuel, and we accept it as normal.   It won't be long before the checkouts will be the same way, and we will talk about the old days of cashiers and bag boys.  Everything has a price, and if we want to keep cashiers and the fast food workers, we must accept that we will pay more for the products to pay for these people.

It’s easier for Joe to keep tabs on your bank account if you don’t use cash.
No need keeping it all in mason jars buried in the yard if it’s useless.

Good point Gary. But we are a fickle bunch. An engaging bright personality at the checkout is fine but seems they are few and far between. A local Hardee's I visit, I would much prefer a setup similar to M as the people there behave as customers are a nuisance. This after I just completed my order from Amazon. BTW, know your prices before shopping there as I've found are sometimes higher for same item than from another source. Eastwood is prime example.

It's not all about wages either, most everybody here is like me, I treat people the way I want to be treated until someone causes an issue then it's game on.  But these counter people take abuse, pure abuse from low life's that have nothing better to do.  I've had orders come wrong, I take it back, explain the issue and 99.9% of the time all goes well.  I was sitting with a McDonald's owner one day when some gal came storming up to the counter and slammed a sandwich down and commenced yelling about how that wasn't what she ordered.  She would have gone into orbit if she'd heard what the owner said to me, which was, "You'd think she was at a 5 star restaurant and they messed up her $50 steak."  Part of their training is to deal with people that don't want to be happy, even with a happy meal. LOL
It's hard to yell at a kiosk about your order, especially when youpunch it in yourself and there is a receipt stating as much.

Support the privately owned family restaurants, Locally owned bar and grill and the truck stop by the interstate. At least the waitress will smile at you and wish you a good day when you leave them a tip.

I don't usually go to the fast food joints any more.  Went to Five Guys this past Friday, got the small burger , , , $8.39!  Not goin back there!!

Local Burger King just removed all of their signs and left the building.

I go to the local Meijer for our groceries.  I always use the self checkout.  I don't want expensive food bagged with laundry soap or something like that.  And it appears they no longer train their checkoutters!  By going to self checkout I can bag how I want and take as many bags as I want.  Beats the hell out of those other people doing it.  And we recycle the bags.  They fit the kitchen trash can real nice.

I too believe in supporting local business. Hardware, Napa, groceries, Doc, all here.   Haven't been to a fast food joint in years.  My local restaurant here has the best food and service, and my favorite waitress always greets me with a big hug when I come in!!Big smile

Local Wal Mart  has self service and cashier... People under 45 normally go to the self service.. I have seen the kiosh at McD and they always ask if you have the APP... but they have a cashier on the drive thru (also) and you can pay cash or credit...Really good food at this McD... and they hire a dozen local high school kids, justs like Wal Mart, which keeps a lot of money in the community and teaches the kids how to WORK for later in life.

I hate self check out because I normally have a few things.  Was standing in line for the cashier and lady in self check out told me come over there I said not unless I get a discount for ringing in and bagging my items.  She just looked at me and I finally got to the cashier and told I still like good old fashioned service.  I have left several carts in the aisles half full or more.  Jan 1st we get rid of Walfart pharmacy also   Hallelujah  they are so inept.

I'm sure there was a time where some refused to buy light bulbs because it was putting candle makers out of business. Just saying.
