Project next. I’m replacing the exhaust, turbine, exhaust elbow and muffler on the old girl. Are there any words of wisdom before trying to remove the exhaust manifold? I put the 5/8 half inch drive socket on one of the studs yesterday and of course it didn’t move. Thanks. Dana

If the exhaust gaskets aren't leaking, leave them alone and change the turbo?? where it sits. A torch will be needed to melt the 4 turbo mtg bolts. Use no lock washers. 7010/20's are famous for having LOOSE exhaust manifold bolts (not studs) from that big heavy muffler. A straight pipe is easier on them.

Thanks Doc. The exhaust manifold by number one is cracked right in half as far as the exhaust gasket they look fine I have a new pipe to put on and a new turbo to put on but now I see the manifold on number one is broken clear through at least it appears so

Well, that changes everything!!  Get the engine good and hot, up to operating temps. Shut it down and take a 1/2" impact and gently rattle on those rusty bolts and they should come loose while the head is warmed up.

Fast forward six hours later we got five studs out the last one broke off I had to TIG weld the washer and nut on the broken stud got that out everything is just waiting now on new manifold bolts from Sandy Lake.

Good job! Keep that up and you will have to hang a new shingle on shop wall.

That's good news Captain. Those manifold studs cause a lot of consternation!
