Pricing a rough ib.
I am interested in a 1946 (correction - its a 1950s model) ib. It runs, but smokes massively once warmed up - incomplete air cleaner in dirty environment likely wore out cylinders. Some antifreeze (pancake batter) in engine oil. Mag ignition. No wiring. Generator swapped for alternator. Missing foot throttle linkage. Both rear hubs have some slop on axles (unlikely from loose axle nuts). Kept outside many years - trans has rain water in it. Rad is good. Tin is good and inl fenders. No battery or battery box. Tires are old, but lots of tread. No hitch or drawbar. No implements/snow plow. In/exhaust manifolds are good.
I offered $900, but was turned down. Did I offer too much, just right, or too little?

way too much, I'd have offered $500, even then that's being generous..... ..sounds like it needs a TOTAL teardown/rebuild..bet that's close to $2000 in REAL new parts.(be interesting to hear what others say !!)...then there's the missing stuff...is it EASY to get or scarcer then hen's teeth ?? yes, it's an IB but... lots were made, so unless you really, really just gotta have it.... call again, week before Christmas, ask if t's still there. if so, say 'I got $750 cash...... see what happens.

You could spend 3x that on a good working machine and be money ahead without the hassle.

If needed I have a few original B/C air cleaners available.

$500. would buy a running B with some problems, but not an IB... If you want it, its probably closer to $1500. .... yea, your going to put that much more into it, but are you looking for a finished running tractor, or a project ?
------------- Like them all, but love the "B"s.

$500 at most! You are looking at a total restoration there. The only good stuff is the sheet metal.

It depends on how much you want an IB. They are neet to have as there were not that many made but there were a lot of Bs made.
I paid 2000 for mine but mine came with an enclosed cab and a snow plow which is very unusual. You will never make money by restoring tractors, but then it is a hobby and not a business. If you want an IB I would offer $1200.

$500-700 point blank. to me not worth more than a B. A good runner B gonna run 750.
Let em sit on it.

Sheet metal looks pretty good including the fenders. Not all IB's had a foot throttle.
I have two IB's. One came with a bad engine. I bought a decent running B, pretty cheap, that I plan to use the engine in the IB.
I don't know about your area, but IB's are pretty rare around here. Value depends on how bad you want it, but I think $900 is in the ball park.

Because its an IB with the rails around it, sheetmetal doesn't look bad,
I would say your in the ballpark with your price. I would say
$900.-$1200.00. Yeah, you're going to put a ton of money into it, but
like some of the guys mentioned, how bad do you want an IB? The IB I
purchased was rough and missing quite a bit of stuff, but I wanted an
IB. By the time I was done, I probably threw $2500. at it. But when it
was done, I used it quite often pullin' a finish mower to mow the
property. Jo Jo loved buzzin' around with it.

I watched these 2 on CL for about a month and thought REALLY hard about them. Since I had 13 B's and C's here already I had a feeling that if I came home with 2 more broken down non running tractors it might just end my 48 year marriage no matter how badly I wanted an IB. Sad thing is they were only about 40 minutes from me. Bill

I know Tony Carbaugh bought a couple IB's a while back. Don't know if these two were the same Tractors he purchased... He's retiring at the end of the year, so I'm sure he's going to be "cleaning up". Might be worth a phone call if someone is interested in an IB. Not sure what he's going to have for sale. Give him a call. He advertises on here. Matter of fact, I have to give him a call and see how he and Nonnie are doing. Haven't chatted with him in a while...

FredI only asked permission on the very first one . The second one was her idea !!! But being a somewhat rational person with rusty iron disease I thought I had reached my limit when these IB's came up for sale.
Steve Tony is only about an hour from me so he's my "go to" guy! I've been helping him reduce his inventory by adding it to mine . They are alive and kicking, just suffering from the "aging disease" we all have. As of a month ago he still had both of his IB's, but I might be inclined to take one off his hands. His are not the ones that were on CL, they are in much better shape! Bill
