I have an UC Thompson Sugar cane that drives in reverse (all the forward gears make it drive opposite of normal). I want to convert it to a straight high crop which will allow the forward gears drive it in the normal manner

Has anybody taken an UC's rear axle apart so it gets its input from the other side of the pinion? Is it as simple as taking out the axles, separating the cast rear axle housing from the transmission, unbolting the carrier unit and reinstalling on the other side?

Pretty sure you have it figured out. Been over 40yrs since I was in my UC so don't remember much.

Like Steve it's been a long time but you are correct just put the ring gear on the other side. Trying to remember but I think it was 1989 or 90. The original bearings are a little different and I hope yours are good. I had to get a doner UC for a final drive. Good luck

i put a "B" back together wrong once... Thats all i did to fix it.

Your bearing preload should be close, so you might have the right number of shims already... You might have to change one side to side to get the gear backlash right.
