Hi guys-I rebuilt the carb on this tractor as it had the following conditions:- Idle needle was non-functioning
- Engine would stumble when the throttle was increased
- In general, the exhaust was sooty.
After the rebuild, the idle screw now works and the engine no longer stumbles when the throttle is increased. During the rebuild, I observed the main jet bore was chewed up by a previous guy. Another thing to note, is that the only adjustment I have is the idle jet.
So with all that, I am still seeing these perceived problems. - At start up, I see sooty exhaust. This clears up after running a few moments.
- As I increase the throttle, I see sooty exhaust. Again, this clears after a few moments.
Are these real problems or not?

Is this a HOLLEY? They are a quite sophisticated carburetor compare the M/S and Zenith. First off they have an accelerator pump that is vacuum operated. If the port is clogged or the plunger is sticking, you will have no end to headaches. The is also a power valve circuit that can give you nightmares. The main load is only metered by the main jet (which uses a standard HOLLEY jet). The two floats pontoons being so far apart need to be adjusted precisely. It would be best to send it to a rebuilder that completely understands a HOLLEY. Also with today's oxygenated gas, carburetors need to be adjust a little bit richer to accommodate the leaner burning fuel.

Some of the larger BENDIX carburetor also have an accelerator pump that MUST slide freely in it's bore, or it will cause the engine to falter and often die when giving it more throttle.
