Hi,

Just got a new 3pt disc mower and ran it yesterday a few hours behind my 185 no problems. This morning, they hydraulics won't lift. It's a single action hydraulic cylinder that is kind of on the smaller side but the manual says it should be within range of what the 185 is (should be) pressure wise. It'll lift if I "barely" move the lever back to the raise position but if i'm not real steady or go just to far it makes a click and stops.

The hydraulic fluid was a little overfilled when I checked it after noticing this problem. I decided maybe I'd just change the filter because I had a spare so why not. Changed the filter, drained a little oil to get it right on the money, still has the problem.

Steering is fine, 3pt goes up and down fine. Worked great yesterday lifting the mower for a few hours no problem then this morning, no dice. Hoping to cut hay right now so any advice is much appreciated! Thanks!

There is a safety bar you need to flip out of the way on my new Holland 619 disk mower to raise it up to transport position. Safety feature

If you can slowly tease the lift lever and make it raise, it sounds to me like the main relief valve has failed. Swap it with the Traction Booster relief and try it that way for testing purposes.

Could also be hydraulic coupler worn or don't match. MACK

Thanks guys, good advice here, I'll test some of these things and report back for posterity.

It's not the safety bar on the mower, mine has one of those too but it ain't that.

I can tease it up. It will work for maybe an hour straight sometimes, maybe a little less maybe more, then it'll be a pain in the butt, then it'll work only when I raise the mower downhill, then only on a sidehill. Seems random, I'm thinking you're right Dr. Allis, likely the safety relief valve. I got almost all the cutting done before dark limping it along, so when I finish that I'll get in there. My tractor has a cab so I haven't quite worked out the best way to get to the manifold yet.

MACK, the hydraulic coupler does look a little different from standard, it's not a ball in the middle but one of those ones with a point. I actually saw something about that somewhere but did not try that before posting. I'll swap it first because that's the easiest!

There's definitely some oil leaking going on, I'm going to have to remove some parts from the cab to get at the lever manifold or whatever that's called. Even full today though, it was acting up. The hydraulic hose to the cylinder is really small, and I don't have an adapter to go from a normal "ball point" hydraulic fitting to the little hose so I haven't tried that yet.

I'll post back when I get it sorted just so if anyone has issues in the future there'll be something for them to look at.

On another note, the seal on the wheel side of the final drive started puking oil today... Smile

Helped fix the same thing on a big Gleaner R76 last year during wheat harvest so it should be a piece of cake! Right...???

If your problem is hose end couplers, the hydraulic system will squeal and groan and load the engine. Same sound as if you pulled on a lever with no hose connected. A bad relief valve (when open) will make zero noise, because it will not load the engine continously. Do NOT use any type of hydraulic coupler adapter. Get a correct coupler tip. Those adapters often times cause more problems.
