Be sure to check out the latest issue. Lots more info on the FWA D21. Looks like the needle in the haystack may have been found

yes was a good article Don. Some one should post the video from dynexhydraulics of the 1967 seminar with the D21 in it.

Yup, about 50 seconds into the video there she is, the mighty D21 FWA

Well now at least we know. According to the article a large amount of heat was generated when the FWA axle was working. This setup works fine in a mixer application where FWA is used to get through a tough spot and then disengaged. In a farm tractor where the FWA is engaged full time, too much heat is generated which is why the program was not successful and 9/10 converted back to 2WD. Why the 10th one was left alone we may never know

Definitely a great article.  I almost have to think that the 10th one wasn't converted back because it was either: 1) placed into an application where the FWA was only needed intermittently and was satisfactory for the owner or 2) the tractor experienced some other catastrophic failure and was scrapped all together.  I like to think it's #1 and that there's one out there somewhere.

Don't someone up in Canada have one.  I think I remember from previous posts that they chimed in and told where they were.

the one in Canada is a Levy conversion,,, I know when it comes up,, there is a lot of arguments started...
the one in the article is prolly one of the original 10, but one that was put back to 2wd,,

I jus wish I'd looked at this one a lot closer at the Pontiac GOTO

So the vid is the hyd co that made the unit? Would that be why the 1 was left as is? Company wanted to keep it? Eventually sold it I'm sure. I haven't opened my HI mag yet lol! Might all be answered there.

Correct. It appears "The One" is in the hands of a collector. It can't be proven, but his D21 is serial number 1 for 1967, which is when the program began and it appears to have the control cable on the console that is now hooked to nothing LOL

The video showing it is a video from Dynex, the supplier of the axle/pump unit. It was during their "showcase" as they made a hydro front drive for various applications
