I know that the d15 gas and propane engines gained substantial power when the series 2 tractors were released and that the diesel stayed the same but for those of you that have owned both or at least ran both, does the diesel make up for the lack of horse power with better torque output or is there a highly noticeable difference between the two different engines under full load?

A series 2 D-15 Gas will put out 46 HP, where a series 2 diesel still had only 36...Wink

I fully understand that I was just trying to get an on hand account as to if the diesel was similar in capabilities because of the diesels better torque or if it was just all around weaker than the gas.

AC didn't have a way to get the diesel up to 46 hp.  So nothing changed on the diesel engine from the series 1.  Series 2 D15 diesel just incorporates the cosmetic changes that were made from 1 to 2.  Nothing mechanical.

I had a D15 diesel engine in a I600 tractor once. That thing had power! Used it on my neighbors feed mixer one evening. Dull red flame showing out the top of the 4ft tall straightpipe. Not joking. Given the choice, I would prefer the diesel engine. Have run gas series II's since then and the governors are snappier.

I've had both a gas and diesel series 2 and still have the diesel.
I thought torque of the diesel made it feel like a more powerful engine than the gas. It seemed like when plowing with a 2 bottom plow in tough clay soil the diesel would just hang in there and pull.
