| Didn’t want to highjack the post about 170-175 production. There’s talk that the 175 gas was a great tractor. What about the 170 gas. Any idea about them. Good tractors or were they totally different from the 175 gas jobs? |

I had a 175 and a D17 I much prefer the 17. ------------- 8030 and 8050MFWD, 7580, 3 6080's, 160, 7060, 175, heirloom D17, Deere 8760 |

The 170/175 from a functional standpoint were the same tractor. Slighly different HP. Factory 3pt thats beefy. Hydrostatic power steering. Flat top fenders. Only downside on the 170/175 is the hood takes 20x as long to remove as a d17. | Had a 170 gas that belonged to a friend. Used it on the brush mower and plowing snow. Was upset when he decided to sell it without offering it to me. Guy showed up one day and said he bought the tractor and the actual owner would call me when the check cleared. |

I have a One Seventy, 170 and a 175. All three are some of the best and handy tractors AC made. Probably could of re-thought the battery placement though! Tracy ------------- No greater gift than healthy grandkids! |

To address the original question the 170 and 175 are pretty close to being the same tractor with some slight improvements in the 175 and of course the horse power difference of 8 or 10 hp. Now what I like and don't like about the 170/175 and D17 IV.....Well I like the D17 Series IV as well as a 170 and 175. They all operate about the same with a coule things I like about the D17 better. I like the throttle better than the 170 and 175. I like the easier servicability of the D17.... snap on hoods for easier access to the engine and that also makes it easier by far to get at the battery and some electrical components. I like the looks of the 170 and 175 better but the D17 has better visibility. The front axle is better on the later 170/175 models where the two pivots are further forward which is stronger and makes removing the oil pan easier. I like the lighting much better on the 170/175 and the diesel engine in them is much better than the D17 diesel though I wish that Allis put the 200 cid diesel in like the 6060/6080. That pretty much sums up my thoughts..... Overall the three models are all darn nice tractors to own. Forgot.... the power steering is so much better in the 170/175 that for me it would be a deciding factor if I had a choice of equal condition tractors so I'd take a 170 or 175 over the D17 Series IV.

Up until month ago I had a 160,175, and 6080 with loaders. The 175 was by far my least favorite. I’d sooner have a 17 with auxiliary pump. | X 2 on Lonn’s comments, especially on the PS of the 170/175. For a loader tractor that is used for short quick work, I might prefer a gas over diesel only because of starting in winter months. I also like the 175 as most had the 18.4” tires. I have used all of them and still have a 175 d with a loader. |

| Raise up the seat 2 inches with a spacer under the seat frame. Make sure the suspension is strong and in good shape. Make 2 inches worth of wood spacers on top of the platforms. You will now like your visibility much better. My next project tractor will be a 170 converted to a 180/185 platform/pedals/seat on it. It will be cool. |

Look forward to seeing that Doc. I would love to have a 175 gas, (diesel would be ok but gas better for me now). The 185 operators station is much better IMO but the smaller tractor would be handy. |
