Will a WD45 handle a Woods BB840X-P or a DS8.30?

Well, I don't see why not. Mine pulls a 6-footer and even on bad hills and tall, thick weeds the WD45 rarely grunts. Might need to use a lower gear, but I would say that's about as big a mower as I'd go.

Meaning, the ones you mentioned would be about as big as I'd use.

I would strongly suggest an over-running clutch.  A lot of momentum in those larger blades.  I have seen tractors pushed through fences and in some cases pto housings severely  damaged.
The 45 will have the power to handle it.
Good Luck!
