| I have a WD45 that does not have a serial number on the rear housing. Does that mean that maybe it was a replaced part from factory? |

| NO it is stamped into the housing, It is either covered with a lot of paint or someone has removed it, Usually scrape the paint with a pocket knife and it will appear. |

| Take a close look. Sometimes they are covered by paint and hard to see. I know where mine is and could hardly find it a few minutes ago. Left side above the square set screw and below the hole for brake spring. |

| BUT, if there is no serial number in the usual place just ahead of the lift shaft, next to the square head brake shoe adjustment screw on the left side, it is a new housing that was replaced at some time in its life. The reason?? Someone ran the rear end out of oil and the pinion shaft bearing locked up and cracked the housing bore. |

Mine is 175421. I can see it all with a good light shining on an angle and maybe my close up glasses on. LOL. |

I recall discussion about this in the past.......sometimes the serial # is located on the edge of the LH brake housing opening next to or under the cover. That may have been for early WDs only? I saw a picture somewhere......now, if I could only remember where!

Mine have wd before the number.---yes they are hard to read as some of them were barely hit and the weather/rust/sandblasting/etc. has about wiped them off. Location in pic. above is the only place you will find the numbers. ---If it aint there---you aint got one! ---- Tractor may have been stolen sometime in its life which would mean no number. | ac fleet......They all say WD xxxxxxx. They do not say WD45 xxxxxxx. The WD45 began at a certain serial number, but the tractor is still a "WD" series. |

Then I'd say you have what the doc says you have, a replaced housing. If the hydraulic pump is original you could stamp that same number into the housing. I don’t see a WD on mine. I will take another look but it was painted many years ago so maybe too much paint.
Just took a good look at the original pic on my iPad and yes the WD is there! Just to left of the first digit. Very faint and a bit smaller than the numbers. Maybe done in different way. Harder to see in post - pic was downsized.

I know they don't say wd-45! --- I mearly said that the 45 has the letters wd before the numbers! the wd's only have the number---no pre letters. ---- it don't matter anyway. ------------- http://machinebuildersnetwork.com/ |

As I (and Mack) said, early WD #s were sometimes near or under the RH side of the LH brake cover on the top of the housing. I know that sometime in the past someone posted a picture of a number there but I don't know where to find it. I remember someone posting a picture of the number on the hydraulic pump also but don't know where to find that either. The only place I have seen the number myself is where Ed (Ont) shows it in his picture. However, the "Operating Instructions and Parts Illustrations" for the "MODEL WD-45 TRACTOR" shows the location in two places. I'm assuming in one of either of the two places.  |

If it turns out that it really has NO number and is a replacement housing, it would be a perfect match for my WD-45 with no engine number. Could make it anything you wanted it to be.....maybe even somebody's grandpa's long lost WD-45?
