In my Allis manuals I was able to find recommended oil for the engine based on the ambient temperature. But I am unable to find any lubrication spec's for anything else, for example the final drive, transmission, steering box ect… Can anyone give me some recommendations? My ALLIS is a 1940 B

instead of straight viscosity oil, many use a good 10w30 multi oil in the motor... The transmission / hydraulics / bevel gear are all one compartment with a total of about 7-8 quarts... was 20wt oil 60 years ago.. most use UTF ( universal tractor fluid) of some sort today.. You don't need the expensive brand, any good oil is fine... Final drive is the small pan under the drop box by the wheel rims. A quart of 80-90 gear lube is more than enough for each side .... Steering box can be motor oil. If the seal is gone and leaks, put a zerk in it and squirt full of grease.

Use non-detergent oil for hydraulic. Detergent engine oil foams.

GMAN54313, Listen closely to SteveIll, He is the resident expert on B's.

He is right that 60 years ago we used 20 NON DETERGENT oil in the transmission, rear end, and hydraulic systems. However, I have to agree wth them todays Universal Tractor Fluid has replaced the 20 NON DETERGENT very well. Have heard excellent reports

Bill,
Thank you for the input I found zero oil in the final drive oil pans nothing but what looked like black tar. So I added a pint of gear oil to each side. the trannie had oil in it but it looked like chocolate pudding. I could almost hear the Allie give a sigh of relief when I added the new UTF oil. The next step will be to replace the sleeve liner O-rings. I took off the oil pan and I can actually see coolant droplets on the sleeves with out pressurizing the system.
