Lift cylinder started leaking pretty bad, Ordered a seal kit... Have the cylinder off and wondering how to take it apart?  Heard some people say the cylinders get too rough and seals won't last. refurbed/ resealed good cylinder at salvage is $500 cad Rather try a seal kit first and make it through this yr.

Just have an op manual for the m2, Service manual for my old F2 maybe its the same way to take the cylinders apart on a F2 as a M2 just different sizes  and be in the F2 manual?

Thanks
Nick

Take the supply line fitting off and there is a little wire snap ring, use a small screwdriver to move it into a ggroove and pull it out. Ive heard of cylinders that still leak after rebuilding, but I havent had one

One on my F2 was pitted so bad it would chew up new seal...replaced with salvage...call around on salvage...that seems high...there were 2 different sizes...get right one

Jut did the seals on the M3. As said, there is a snap ring accessible through the hydraulic port. The ram is a little rough but we will see how long it holds up. Certainly less expensive than a replacement at this point

Here's a shot of the ram out of the cylinder
Also check the fit of the new snap ring in the bore before you install the ram. One the rings in my kits was too large and had to be trimmed to fit

Thanks guys. Yes mine is 2.5 inch. I'll clean everything up and see what it looks like, Hopefully good enough the new seals will last for a while anyways.

I’ve rebuilt several. Never had one that didn’t hold. Fortunately combine cylinders are below the throat so they don’t seem to rust out too bad. Good luck

Here's the one I worked on just before inserting the dust seal. It sits outside. I ran an Emory cloth over it first. Is this plating or just pitting?

It's lost some chrome and is pitted. You won't know till you try it for a while. Not much to lose.

Best of luck with your seal job on that particular cylinder. Our F2 unloading swivel cylinder was pitted less than that aqnd the local shop would only re-seal after they machined anew ram, was NOT horribly expensive either. To Nick, PLEASE be careful under the feeder house!!
