Anybody have an idea how many seed per foot of row, 8" spacing, that one should plant when interseeding wheat into pasture. Trying to get some planted for winter grazing.

Planting wheat for combining I planted 3bu. per acre.

I have never planted wheat into pasture but have plenty of wheat for grain. I would think about 6 seeds per foot would make it plenty thick for grazing.

I know my math HAS to be off but...

1 seed every 2" x 8" is about 392,205 seeds per acre.

A bushel has about 900,000 seeds

so 1/2 bushel is needed ?

seems kind 'light' to me....

I 'd use the whole bag...

I no-tilled some winter rye in a thin hay field one fall thinking it would give me some first crop the next year and then plant something else on it but the rye never did much in that field. I have planted rye on other fields as a cover and for forage where it did good.

Remember to take germination percent into consideration when figuring how many seeds you want.
