| Guys. I have a wd 45 with ps. The front has a lot of wobble going down road. It seems to be in front end alone. Is there shims in front to take wobble out? Thanks Gary |

| Check u-joint on right side of motor and keyway at bottom of of front end where tires turn, has a set screw there. Wheel bearing might be a problem. |

| Is it a narrow front? My narrow front WC wobbles pretty good in road gear as well. Im wondering if there isnt a way to shim the worm gear tighter to the teeth. |

Folks, Wade, You may find that the slop is in several places. Jack up the tractor safely and wiggle the front wheels and see where the movement is. Take cover off in front of Rad. May be slop in the key way. May be in the (bearings) supporting the worm gear. Or both. Could be U- joint. Could be lower bearing in pedestal. ???? Regards, Chris

The biggest wear-point of steering gear, is the sector and worm, when the wheel is pointed straight forward. Why? Because this is where the worm and sector spend most of their time working. If you jack up the front of the tractor, and wiggle the wheels, you'll measure a fair amount of slop in the sector. Turn the wheel about a third of the way to left or right, and most of that slop will be gone. Any remaining will be in the joints or the worm bearings, and you can tighten that up... but the slop at center will STILL be there. Only way to eliminate that slop, is to either replace worm and sector, or re-cut the gear teeth on the sector, then recut the teeth on the worm, then move the worm closer to suit. there is no 'shim' that will make it go away. ------------- Ten Amendments, Ten Commandments, and one Golden Rule solve most every problem. Citrus hand-cleaner with Pumice does the rest. |

| When I got dads wd45, it had the same problem. At that time i put a set of new 6:00x16 dual rib tractor tires on the front. That stopped the wobble. Fast forward 40 years. Tires rotted out several years ago and the grease in the front end was solid and not lubing the front end. I removed the whole narrow front end, tore it apart. I put all new bearings and seals in it. That tightened everything up plus it now holds sae 90 gear lube. It doesn't have that wobble now. I had to get the bearings and seals from Agco. |

My 35 WC had way too much slop between the worm and sector gear. When I got it apart, I found the bore in the top of the pedestal was badly worn. There is no bearing up top and the casting was worn, so I set it up in a horizontal boring mill, picked up the center of the original bore and bored the casting out a quarter inch O/S. Then I made a cast iron sleeve about .002 bigger than the bored hole and pressed it in. That put the worm and sector gear back to a very decent workable backlash.
