any body ever fix a non locking parking brake on a 190 ? HOW'd you do it ?

If the brake lock does not work, it usually need to be freed up and lubricated. It also won't work if the spring is missing.

Its a interesting setup, the spring plays a big part of it , if it jumps out of lock the brake pawls need replaced

You can fix them sometimes by taking the piece off the end of the arm that locks into the teeth and putting a new edge on it with a grinder. Also sometimes they need the roll pin thru the handle on the shaft replaced.

New ratchet teeth and a new pawl and a good spring and lube on the pivot area, they work great. I saw one pawl installed BACKWARDS one time by someone who didn't know what they were doing. The same mistake could be done with the ratchets....they only work one way.

Be thankful it's a 190, our 180 park brake set-up leaves ALOT to be desired. That engineer needed to be strung up IMO. What was wrong with the D series "clam" looking wedge system??
