We have been taking about a 300 horse tractor. The steigers have a good reputation and seem reasonable priced. Just wondering how the cabs are. Are they loud?

What years are you thinking? We are farming with a 9370 and a 9230. Love the cabs and ease of maintenance.

Farm I work at has a 9270 very big comfortable cab. Has the 4 range 3 speed synchro shift. I like it a lot it's a little overpowered it'll spin out instead of lugging down. All the hydraulic controls are convenient and has nice steering control. We pull a 40 ft heavy culture harrow with a 60 ft leveling harrow hooked behind it. Only thing that has ever stopped me was a 32 shank chisel plow. The lift actuator broke when I was going up high in frozen ground. Fuel tank holds about 250 gallons but I dig a few quarters before I need fuel again.

We run 2 late 70s Steigers and really like them. One has an 855 cummins and a 10 speed and the other has a 3406 cat and 20 speed. Ours arent big on creature comforts (the ac isnt worth much on either) but they are pretty easy to work on and have been pretty reliable for us.

We’re looking at mid 80s panther with an 855 Cummins. So it’s older than what most of you are running

Steiger was great until Case started tinkering with them. Parts are easy to come by and not super expensive and could get many parts at truck dealers. Can't say that for today's Steiger.

I have a 1982 PTA280 3406A powered, 750 series Allison 5 speed Trans,2 spd. drop box and RABA axles put the power to the ground. It's been one of the most trouble free tractors that I've owned. Updated the HVAC system with AP Air's, and now it cools like a new one. Ben @ Big Tractor Parts can get a lot of the parts, plus he's a great guy. Most consumable parts, u-joints, control cables, etc, can be sourced locally from NAPA, Inland Truck, etc. Good Luck, Mike

Hated my Steiger built tractor.   Lost my butt on it. Brakes sucked and most of the time had to shut it off to shift.   Lost my butt doing it but glad I sent it down the road.

Does anyone have any experience with the Steiger with the allis power director trans and axels. There is one close by with a 280 horse cat engine.
