Subject: B water pump

Hello. Just having my first experience with a Model B. Water pump is leaking out the front seal. My question is: Is there a replacement seal or do I have to replace the entire water pump and where can I locate one? Thanks, Tommy

Contact Jim @ OK tractor in Mounds Oklahoma and geta rebuilt pump. Easiest way to solve problem. Leon

Buy a new one as that is the most economical way to go. I bought one off e-bay for $68.00

I agree with buy a new one. A seal Kit is not cheap and if you have never rebuilt one your in for a chore you most likely will regret.

I have over the years rebuilt a number of water pumps with new seals and shaft with bearing. Never had a problem rebuilding. The last kit I bought the price was about the same as a factory pump. Does anyone know if kit for rebuilding are still available from Agco?

Thanks everyone for the great advice. Looks like this project is a lost cause. Took every thing off the front of the machine (tear down went great). Out of curiosity tried to turn the engine over. Appears to be locked up solid so likely not worth the price of a new engine if the marvel mystery oil and automatic transmission won't free it up. The guy that gave it to me said he just parked it, drained the gas and water and left it when he purchased one of the new Chinese brands. I'm guessing rain water got in somehow. Don't give up yet. My B was locked up when i got it, and it took more tha MMO, transmission fluid and acetone...but with the head off, I eventually got it freed up and it is running great with good compression and no visible smoke without replacing rings or liner. Elsewhere on here is a longer description of how I finally got it free.

Mine had rust in 2 cylinders, but it was from the high humidity of being in a barn basement. If you actually did get rainwater, well, there may be no choice but pistons, rings and liners. But you never know until you look.

Thanks for encouragement. Water pump would barely turn with lots of pulling on the fan blades. This morning I filled the pump back up with water and gave it a few turns. Water started to exit the pump and the pump turned very freely and the leak at the front shaft quit, so that may be good now. Took the plugs out and squirted more Marvel oil and atf fluid in the holes. Still can't get the crank to budge but plan is to check it and add more every time I am near to it. Time isn't much of a factor, but as every retiree knows, money is often the deciding factor.
