Is the show still on for 2019??? I heard.rumors that it may not happen. Need to make plans now! Anybody here involved with that club? Asking for a friend. (ha ha)
------------- sometimes I walk out to my shop and look around and think "Who's the idiot that owns this place?"

The Half Century of Progress is truly worth the trip. A fantastic show. Great people. Bring a golf cart, UTV, or reserve a rental cart well ahead of the show. Back when my dad was alive and able to go places a friend & I took him to the Half Century. We had a cart reserved but the line was so long we couldn't get in. I went around to the vendor gate, explained that I had a WWII vet on board who needed to get close to the golf cart vendor. My friend, the late Mark Bouillon, is a vet, too. I asked if I could drop Dad & Mark off at the cart vendor then go back out & park. The gentlemen at the vendor gate allowed us to park behind the cart vendor so the truck would be handy for Dad at the end of the day. Again, great people at the Half Century!

Starting to plan for this trip and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for lodging and tips in general. We are planning to bring golf cart and have a travel trailer and an RV we could bring if there are campgrounds with hook ups near by? Or if we stay in a motel which one is recommended and could we leave our golf cart at night at the show?

There aren't many motels in Rantoul. Best bet is to check the internet or call the Chamber of Commerce to see what's available and book right away. Champaign, IL is about 15 to 20 miles south of Rantoul, right down the interstate, and is home to the University of Illinois. Should be plenty of motel rooms in Champaign unless the university has a big event that weekend. If there's a home football game there'll be a huge crowd in Champaign - Urbana. Again, I suggest booking early. Don't know much about campgrounds. I know people who camp on site at the Half Century and plan to do it again. Check the internet to see what state parks and campgrounds are close. Something to keep in mind is that the Farm Progress Show starts 2 days after the Half Century ends on Sunday. Rantoul and Decatur, IL. are about 60 miles apart. There will be FPS folks in motel rooms in Decatur, Champaign, and Springfield. So book early!

Checked the 2019 Fighting Illini football schedule. (Yes, I'm an alum. Go Illini!) )There's a home game on Saturday, August 31. Half Century dates are August 22 - 25. Can't find the university's 2019 fall semester 1st day of class or dorm move in dates. The first football game is Aug. 31 so classes likely start on Aug. 26. That means dorm move in day will likely be Aug. 21 - 23. Since those days fall on the Half Century days the motels in Champaign / Urbana may be very busy. The twin towns are a total zoo on dorm move in day. If you're bored, like crowds, can find a parking space, and want to watch the circus be my guest. Also keep in mind that Millikin University, once called "The Harvard of the Midwest", is located in Decatur, IL. So there'll be a lot of demand for motel rooms in the entire area. Book early. Book early. Book early.

We went last year, stayed in Urbana, had early reservation and they were full for the show.
