Whats the best way to store and or preserve tires? My thoughts are to wash them, wipe them down with armor all, and store them in my dry basement. Stack up two rear tires, throw a good piece of plywood on top, and boom! Nice place to store stuff.
I have a couple rear 24" tires that I don't currently have a use for, but don't want to let them dry rot away out in the back of the shed.

They used to dust them with talcum powder.

Once produced there is little to keep tires from Ozone hardening and developing UV damage. Used to be wrapped with plastic after dusted with Talcum but even that will not protect for a long storage.
I would do the Talc, wrap them with similar to bale wrap, any commercial opaque(cannot see through) plastic sheeting. Then put them away where stays dark and cool but NOT moist.

I had a couple standing up in the back corner of my barn for a few years and they were the same when I pulled them out as when I put them there. I didn't do anything to them.

I've found that if I store them standing up and not inflated, they will have cracks where they wrinkle a little. I, personally, would try to store them flat, maybe on a pallet to let air circulate under them.
