| I spend a lot of time driving on I 44 , 270 north and south in St Louis, then run hwy 50 also; heres my question, how can pilot cars be so far ahead of the oversized load ? Its crazy, see the car running thru traffic then a mile down the road heres the truck with cars and dumb drivers dodging in and out ,,, seen some really mesed up situations where it could have been bad ,, |

What frost my butt is when they are hauling those long wind generator blades. I have had them block off the other lane, even when there is no traffic in sight for a mile. I have out driven them a few times and it pisses them off. They are more of a hazard than the ones they are there to prevent. |

Ran across a few of those (not hauling generator blades but other stuff) myself that think they own the road. They are more of a hazard that the big loads they are escorting. Another thing that gets me is the weekend farmer going down the road with the tractor flashers on and a SMV sign and wifey poo right behind him with the car flashers on, if I can't see the tractor I probably won't see the car either. And it is a lot easier to get around one vehicle than it is two. ------------- Just an old country boy saved by the grace of God. |

| now….if you really wanna mess with them pilot cars with the long height pole, wait til they stop for lunch somewhere, and extend that pole up about another foot. it'll hit the first overpass, and then that big ole load will already be on the road and stopped for what they think is over height! ya'll just nevermind how I know this! |

There are truckers and then there idiots sitting in a truck. When my uncle was running AC HD 21 and the Fiat Allis FD30 always used the same guy and he made unc get a CB radio and yellow light for the top of his pickup if he piloted and trucker didn't bring his own pilot car.
The limestone quarry past my place has changed owners. So bring in different equipment and part of the time the pilot cars are a mile and 5 minutes ahead of the load. Other times a 100 feet ahead.

| I gots stopped by a local once while driving my golf cart around a camp ground. he said the street in the camp ground is really a state road. gave me a warning. the next trip around the camp ground in my golf cart and the local didn't stop me, just shook his head! I put a SMV emblem on the back of my cart....and THAT made it legal to operate it on that roadway! LOL (that was in another state) |

I screwed an SMV sign on my 7K tandem dump trailer. Best $8 ever invested ! It allows me to LEGALLY tow it on the roads here ,to drop off 'tin' at the scrapyard and get 5 yds of fresh 'ponypoop' or 'stablesweepings'. As long as I go less than 30MPH, I'm untouchable..
