| Accidentally overtorqued a oil drain plug and pulled out all the threads (aluminum). I dont know whether to use a helicoil or just drill and tap it out for a new bolt next size up. I am thinking I will just re-tap it for the next bigger size but have never used helicoil before and wondered if it might work better. The threads were m12 before I stripped them out. |

| Once upon a time I saw where someone used a rubber plug after the threads were stripped. It worked. I use a torque wrench when I change my oil. I’m a bit anal in some ways, though. |

hmm... I'd retap to 14mm ,probably size for helicoil..... then find a bolt to fit and a copper washer or just grab a sparkplug ? Ain't them things 14mm ?? be nice, I stubbed my big toe an hour ago, dang thing smarts (unlike me for tripping on carpet in litchen)..... | You don't need a helicoil or retap. Stop in at your local NAPA store and buy a single oversize thread cutting plug. We used a whole lot of them, when we were in the oil change business, make sure it comes with a new gasket. |

| Just the other day a guy was in the shop showing us this kit, for the life of me I can't think of the name he called it. He had a Harley and was riding and the drain plug was leaking when the tryd to tighten it was stripped and when he asked the dealer of a fix they said get this kit. So it has a drill bit a tape then it looks like thread insert you turn in by hand then this little tool that when you look at the threads on it they appear to be flat sided and must be tapered because you screw that up in there it expands that insert and sets it in place. It's not a heel a coil. But it definitely looked like it would work great |
