I have a question.... I'm looking a various B's on craigslist and noticed something I've never seen before. In the picture below, notice the casting that the starter is bolted to. I looks like all the other electric start torque tubes I've seen..... (old, saved picture, tractor no longer for sale)  But in this picture, the starter appears to be mounted in a different spot.... Is this an after market set-up? Did someone do some fancy welding? Is it from a C or a CA or a different brand??? and I just never noticed the differences before????... The tractor in the picture still has the tin work under the tank styled like a hand start tractor. There's no cut out metal for a battery box... They mounted the battery on the side of the torque tube.. (pictures off of current craigslist ad)  Full side view of tractor in question......  Any ideas what I'm seeing?? Thanks. That appears to be an earlier tractor. The front hubs look like the riveted type which would suggest a '39 B. Never seen that type of starter mount. |

The seller lists the serial number in the ad and based on that, yes, it should be a 1939.. It has an unusual looking mount/casting though.... Thanks. ------------- 1950 B |

| Some ones invention! None would have came from the factory that you couldn't mount cultivators on. If they didn't machine out to add the starter housing the torque tube would have had to come from something else other than a B. |

Again, I am finding something on this site that I have never seen before even though, with my father, we sold B's for the life of the unit. I have to agree with Dick L - one of the finest mechanics I have never met - that this torque tube was from another unit since the 39 B did not have a starter. Looking at the original B it has to be one of the latest made. It has the CA type starter whereby it is a pull start rather than the push. The gas tank has to be "dented" to accommodate the top starter Good Luck! Bill Long
