Leaky intake manifold. Float level wrong. Partially clogged jet.

Open up the main jet 2 or 3 turns. What did you do to the carb??

I'd spray carb cleaner around all fittings and see if the engine tone changes. If so, you found your leak. Some guys also use the gas from a non-lit propane torch, as it produces similar results.

Has the carb had a good cleaning?  Might want to do that first.

You might have done it already, but I have found the fuel goes bad. I drained my D17 that had new fuel in it a month ago, left it in an open pail and after a week still has fuel in it.

Fresh fuel,

Carb was rebuilt not too long ago, but yes it may need cleaning.

Actually I dont know much about the workings of a carb, but willing to tear into it if I must.

Manifold is newer, hope there isnt a leak!

Thanks guys.

I think I would put the carb on hold and look at ignition. I have seen points, condensor and plug wires cause this problem. Drives you nuts until you find it. Had one that I messed with a long time and found a wire shorting against the block. To soon for the gas and match.

Plugs are less than two years old, had ignition overhauled at same time...so hope its not ignition but will keep that in mind and do a look see... thanks
